Bolivian Cholita and Boyfriend in Cochabamba

My Favourite Pic in Ages: Lovers of an Afternoon

I had just climbed 2000 stairs to reach the top of Cerro San Pedro in Cochabamba to see Cristo de la Concordia; Bolivia’s contribution to the tradition of erecting huge statues of Jesus around the world.  This guy measures in at slightly more than 34 metres, pipping Rio’s famous Christ the Redeemer (though, of course, its being in Bolivia won’t allow you to stroll down the beach afterwards to wonder at the engineering involved in preventing those quite frankly unhuman Brazilian backsides from dropping right off their owners and into the sand).  I hung around for a while, looking over Cochabamba and resting my own much less voluptuous butt after climbing those stairs…though what I loved about visiting Cristo de la Concordia wasn’t him himself (nor the fact that I am apparently very lucky to have made it up the hill without being robbed) but this very lovely Bolivian couple – a cholita and her man – stealing a moment away to look over their city.
